Hi! My name is Alex and I’m a a compassionate and enthusiastic environmental educator, science/cliamte communicator, naturalist, filmmaker, video editor, and nature/wildlife photographer from Portland, OR, on a mission to photograph every bee.

I’m based in San Diego and just graduated from UCSD Scripps Institution of Oceanography with a Master’s in Climate Science and Policy.

Growing up surrounded by the endless outdoors of Portland, OR going camping, hiking, and mountain biking instilled in me an unwavering love of the outdoors and a commitment to share the majesty of our world and highlight the stories of those working to change it.

I am a Certified Photo Instructor / Naturalist for National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions aboard passenger expedition small cruise ships, leading guests through the wilderness of Alaska, PNW & British Columbia, Baja California, Antarctica, and more. I teach expedition photography and love sharing my love for the outdoors and environment. It was in this role that I found a deep passion for environmental education and climate change communication .

I’ve filmed breaching humpbacks and killer whales off the coast of Alaska, directed a documentary in Florence, Italy about love and cheese (yes, I ate an excessive amount of parmesan cheese), and have edited documentary film projects for Adidas, Meta, National Geographic, and OutsideTV, photographed adorably stinky penguins on the Antarctic Peninsula, and produced/edited stories on topics such as vertical farming, cash bail reform, cleaning up space debris, and psychedelic medicine.

Ultimately, I’m passionate about the intersection of social change, climate change and conservation, and the outdoors; I believe storytelling is a fundamental tool of healing and growth in our changing world.

I’m an avid birder and love hiking, basketball, biking, camping, board games, trivia, and arts and crafts. Disclaimer: I’m a recovered theater kid.
